RAPS Thrift Stores

RAPS operates two thrift stores in the Metro Vancouver region. Proceeds from the sale of donated items at our thrift stores goes to supporting all RAPS initiatives.

About OUR  THRIFT STORES

Social enterprise is a vital part of the RAPS Model. Our thrift stores not only generate revenue to support the programs and services we offer, they have extraordinarily positive impacts on the local economy and the global environment.

Members of our community donate previously enjoyed clothing, kitchen items, housewares, furniture, décor, jewelry and so much more. We offer these to the public at prices that undercut most major thrift stores so that turnover is incredibly rapid. This is beneficial to households of all incomes in a community that has one of the world’s highest costs of living.

The thrift stores also divert tons of material every year from local landfills. It has been estimated that more than 26 billion pounds of clothing get dumped in North American landfills every year. As much as 10% of solid waste in the landfills is made up of textiles and experts estimate that as much as 95% of that could be used or recycled instead. An Ontario study indicated that only about 15% of discarded textiles are reused or recycled.

Also: a jaw-dropping 700 gallons of water can be used to make a single new cotton T-shirt. When it comes to textile production, water is the most intensive resource used. Count the items in your closet and extrapolate the impact on water resources.

Supporting the RAPS Thrift Stores – by donating items, shopping or telling your friends – is good for the economy, good for the environment and good for the animals!

Donations

We always appreciate donations. Our thoughtful volunteers carefully handle your donated treasures with respect. However, we ask that you only donate items that are suitable for re-sale, are clean and not broken. Please drop off donations during store hours so that we ensure that the items are not damaged or pilfered if left outside.

Donations are accepted:
Monday – Saturday 10:00am – 4:00pm at our Granville and Francis locations. Please note that due to strict COVID protocols, daily donations will only be accepted until the bins are full.

PICK-UP & DELIVERY

We can help deliver furniture items purchased at the RAPS Thrift Stores. Delivery fees apply. Please call (604) 242-1825 or email karen@rapsbc.com for details. Curb side service only.

If you have large articles to donate and need them to be picked up, please call (604) 242-1825 or email karen@rapsbc.com. Pick-ups must be approved by the Store Manager and fees will apply. Curb side service only. The RAPS Delivery Driver has the right to refuse a donation if the item is dirty, damaged, or too large, etc.

Because we cannot repair items and have to pay for disposal, we are not able to accept:

  • Mattresses
  • Large appliances
  • Old computers
  • Non-functioning items

To volunteer at the RAPS Animal Hospital Thrift Stores, please call 604-242-1825.
