RAPS Animal Hospital

We are reimagining veterinary care through an affordable, community-owned, not-for-profit model in which the bottom line is not profit – it’s saving and improving the lives of as many animals as possible.

About Our  ANIMAL HOSPITAL

The RAPS Animal Hospital opened in 2018. This marked a major transition in the history of our organization. This in-agency hospital has allowed us to almost entirely eliminate external veterinary expenses, which had been our biggest budgetary item.

More significantly, the community-owned, not-for-profit hospital also allows us to deliver even more immediate and responsive care to all the animals at the RAPS Cat Sanctuary, at our Adoption Centre and in our fostering network.

By opening up to the general public, the RAPS Animal Hospital is able to provide outstanding veterinary care to all the animals in our region – at the most affordable cost possible because the profit motive has been removed!

To top it off … as one of the only public veterinary facility facilities owned by an animal rescue agency, the RAPS Animal Hospital is now able to assist animals from other organizations, who might otherwise be euthanized because those agencies do not have the resources to provide the care they require.

We have also been able to provide millions of dollars in partial or full subsidies to households with low incomes or facing other challenges, so that no one is forced to make life-and-death decisions about their companion animals based on ability to pay.

We have also been able to provide millions of dollars in partial or full subsidies to households with low incomes or facing other challenges, so that no one is forced to make life-and-death decisions about their companion animals based on ability to pay.

The RAPS Animal Hospital also offers B.C.’s only 0% no-interest wellness payment plans, because, even for households not facing immediate economic challenges, an unexpected veterinary bill can be a serious challenge.

Finally, all revenues generated by the RAPS Animal Hospital are reinvested into programs and services that save and improve the lives of less fortunate animals. Nobody enjoys paying veterinary (or any other) bills! But knowing that fees go to help the animals – not into the pockets of corporations or shareholders – makes the experience more bearable.

The community-owned RAPS Animal Hospital is a crucial component of the RAPS difference, allowing us to create a sustainable model of no-kill animal care that can be codified and shared to save millions more animals across Canada and worldwide.
